As the CEO of CITY Furniture, I stand humbled and inspired by the incredible strides we are making towards sustainability. Today, more than ever, we recognize the urgent need to protect and preserve our planet for future generations. At CITY Furniture, we are not merely a furniture retailer; we are passionate stewards of the environment, striving to make a meaningful impact on the world around us.

My personal dedication to sustainability stems from a deep-rooted belief that every business, regardless of its size, holds the power to effect positive change. From the smallest decision to the grandest initiative, we have the opportunity to shape a brighter and greener tomorrow. Guided by this conviction, we have embarked on a transformative journey, leading the charge towards a more sustainable future.

The road to sustainability has been challenging, but our resolve remains unwavering. Every step forward is a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated team members, partners, and customers who share in our vision. Our journey has been anything but easy, but every challenge has fueled our determination to do better, to be better, and to inspire others to join us on this path.

At the heart of our sustainability efforts lies CITY’s ‘2040 Green Promise,’ a beacon guiding us towards environmental stewardship. We believe that setting ambitious goals is essential for driving meaningful change. This promise is not just a marketing slogan; it is a personal commitment to make a positive impact on our planet.

One of our proudest achievements has been revolutionizing our delivery fleets. We understood the significant impact our transportation had on the environment, so we took decisive action. We made the bold move to convert 100% of our delivery trucks to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), significantly reducing our carbon emissions. The decision was not easy, but it was the right one. We are determined to continue this progress and make our delivery fleet entirely carbon neutral by 2040, incorporating natural gas and electric trucks powered by renewable energy sources.

As we looked within our facilities, we realized that we could do so much more. Sustainability is not just about one aspect of our business; it is about permeating every aspect of our operations. We made a commitment to prioritize energy efficiency and embrace renewable energy sources. Today, many of our facilities proudly bear LEED certification, a testament to our dedication to minimizing our carbon footprint.

One of the most impactful changes we implemented was adopting solar energy. We are currently enrolled in 4,766kW of solar energy production, a milestone that currently supplies one-third of our facilities’ power consumption with clean, zero-carbon solar energy. It is a small step, but it represents a giant leap towards a sustainable future.

Recycling has been another cornerstone of our sustainability initiatives. We believe that responsible waste management plays a vital role in safeguarding our planet’s resources. That’s why we have implemented comprehensive recycling programs across our organization, diverting a staggering 8,500,000 pounds of waste from landfills annually. We strive to achieve 100% recycling rates by incorporating electric equipment, solar charging stations, and eco-friendly lithium-ion batteries into our operations.

The journey towards sustainability has been deeply personal. Witnessing the dedication and passion of our team, along with the support from partners and customers, has been truly inspiring. We are not just a company; we are a community committed to making a positive impact on the world. For this reason, we founded the Green CITY Summit – to unite local businesses, exchange best practices, and engage with city officials. Our goal is to empower each enterprise to embrace their unique sustainability journey, fostering progress towards a greener and more socially responsible business landscape.

Our commitment to sustainability is not driven by marketing strategies or industry accolades. It comes from a genuine desire to be responsible stewards of the environment, leaving a positive legacy for generations to come.
